E5 – LABORATORY FOR OPEN SYSTEMS AND NETWORKS

Name of the Project: UNITE – UpgradiNg ICT excellence by strengthening cooperation between research Teams in an enlarged Europe
Duration: 1.2.2010 – 30.4.2013

UNITE Project is an EU-FP7 funded Coordination Action gathering 5 institutions that are committed in increasing the level of excellence of ICT research across an Enlarged Europe by promoting active secondment of research teams and strengthening cooperation in community supported research on Enterprise Interoperability (EI), Enterprise Software Applications (ESA), and the novel research domains of the “Future of the Internet”.

The secondment or mobility of PhD, post-graduate students, researchers and other IT experts within the enlarged Europe is seen as a major action to achieve sustainable knowledge sharing. The project aims to support the flow of skilled people among universities, research institutions, and business-related companies of the enlarged Europe at 27.

One solution to acquire and disseminate knowledge in such a framework is to meet other partners in multiple environments, during more or less long periods of time depending on the experience of the researchers through mobility program. This integrating activity must allow cross-fertilisation of an organization to another, thus ensuring common understanding of concepts and enabling new research developments.

Based on the structure of the federated theme “Future Internet”, UNITE aims at creating three virtual communities around the Internet of Services, the Internet of Things and a virtual community for the other areas from the Future of Internet (Network of the Future, 3D and Media Internet, Trustworthy ICT).

Secondment and networking activities will be conducted in these sub-domains contributing along side with other programmes to build a larger framework of mobility of researchers, PhD and post-graduates students across the enlarged Europe.
